How classroom exchanges work

From application to a live conversation between two classes, each step is supervised by an adult.

  1. A teacher applies

The teacher submits an application with their school’s details, or joins a school that is already registered.

  2. The Academy verifies

Our team reviews the teacher and the school. Nothing can be posted until both are approved.

  3. The class prepares a post

Together, the teacher and class write a short story with an optional photo about their food, festivals, language, daily life, music or traditions.

  4. The post is reviewed

The Academy team reads every post before publication. Approved posts appear in the student feed; edited posts are reviewed again.

  5. Students explore and react

Signed-in students read posts from other countries and respond with a small set of friendly emoji.

Supervised live exchanges

Teachers can also propose a live video exchange with another approved school. The invited school confirms or declines the date, and the call takes place in class, led by both teachers.

  • Only the two teachers ever see the meeting link
  • Students see the schools, the topic and the date, never how to join
  • Proposals can be declined or cancelled at any time

How moderation works

Several layers of review protect students before, during and after publication.

  1. Step 1

    Identity checks

Teachers and schools are verified by the Academy team before they gain access.

  2. Step 2

    Pre-publication review

Every new or edited post waits in a review queue until it is approved.

  3. Step 3

    Safe photos

Photos are uploaded to our own storage with location and camera data removed. No links to outside websites are shown to students.

  4. Step 4

    Ongoing oversight

The Academy team can remove a published post at any time.

Students can

  • Read approved posts from classrooms in other countries
  • React to a post with a small set of friendly emoji
  • See upcoming live exchanges between schools
  • Take part in a live exchange in class, with their teacher

Students cannot

  • Write comments or send messages to anyone
  • Publish posts or upload photos themselves
  • See meeting links or join a call on their own
  • See other students’ names, profiles or personal information
